Monstercat, one of Electronic Dance Music’s most influential independent record labels, has brought its most popular music podcast, Monstercat: Call of the Wild, to SiriusXM Radio.
What is Monstercat: Call of the Wild?
Monstercat: Call of the Wild premiered on the satellite radio network Friday, January 4. The show will air every Friday at 9:00 PM PST/12:00 AM EST on SXM channel 52, Diplo’s Revolution.
For over four years, the hour-long podcast has highlighted and discussed Monstercat songs in various segments. The show will still be available through all its other mediums like Spotify, Soundcloud, and Twitch.
SiriusXM is a subscription-based network that can be listened to through smart devices as well as in your car. The most basic package is $11 per month. Free of FCC regulations thanks to it’s pay-to-listen system, SiriusXM provides an escape to those who may be sick of FM radio’s strict rules and endless commercials.
One “Sirius” Advantage
As SirusXM radio reaches more ears, (one Arbitron study posted to Adweek states 32 million people tune in weekly) artists and labels are looking to get in on the action. Call of the Wild will continue to feature artist takeovers, spotlights, and exclusive first listens. Diplo’s name and SXM’s reach will likely give Monstercat’s show a hearty boost.
Dan Scarcelli, Monstercat’s Head of Live Programming, expressed his excitement about the team-up on Twitter Friday:
Monstercat founders, Mike Darlington and Ari Paunonen started the label in 2011. Since then, they have come to represent an impressive list of artists including, Excision, Deorro, Slumberjack, San Holo, and Marshmello.
Monstercat values community and has built a loyal following through online communication, gaining over seven million subscribers between the label’s two YouTube channels, Monstercat Instinct and Uncaged.
According to an article at edm.com, Monstercat has produced “22 number one chart-topping albums on iTunes,” and achieved “over two million streams per day on Spotify.”
